The world is shifting rapidly - it is frightening, and people (also us - hi - we’re people) are scared, angry, overwhelmed…and somehow still expected to function as usual. We certainly don’t have all of the answers (or any of the answers, really), but what we do know is that we have to keep getting together to talk about what we’re experiencing, how we’re feeling, and what strategies for survival, rest, connection, and resistance are available to us right now.

Each month, the Queer Leadership Lab hosts a fishbowl conversation to explore the realities of queer leadership in the present moment. Our founding members, Taj M. Smith, Jen Self, PhD, LICSW, and Liz Cruz, will share reflections, strategies, and questions to help us all think through how to show up, push back, and protect our well-being in this moment of chaos.

This is a space to listen, reflect, and connect. Come be in community with us as we make sense of the world and imagine the futures we want to build.

Fishbowl Conversation: Queer Strategies for the Present Moment

As we look toward the future, many of us are grappling with big questions: What does it mean to show up as a leader in a time of heightened uncertainty and fear? How can we lead in ways that reflect our values and create space for both our own well-being and that of our communities? How can queer leadership practices support our collective resistance to (waving our arms around) all of *this*?

In this session, our co-founders discussed queer leadership strategies for the present moment - sharing perspectives, ideas and resources to help queer leaders find direction amidst uncertainty.

Fishbowl Conversation: Queer Strategies for the Present Moment

Y'all, this present moment is A LOT. We're witnessing genocide, attacks on civil rights, and the melting down of American democracy. Collective grief, pain, fear, and uncertainty are palpable, and for many of us, our capacity to go about the 'day-to-day' is in deep disruption.

So, what to do?

In this session, our co-founders discussed strategies for well-being (or "doing okay" or just getting through) available to us right now. They talked about practices that support us and our communities and how we can lead in a way that honors our current capacity.

Fishbowl Conversation: What is Queer Leadership?

Our co-founders shared what we mean when we say ‘queer leadership’, explored ways that queer leaders disrupt the status quo, and talked about how we can draw upon collective and personal experience to develop queer leadership practices. This discussion revolved around what queer leadership means to each and everyone in this open, reflective space where we share, listen, and grow together.
